Mac Studio M4 Max SSD struggles to export ProRes 4444
In this video I examine the ProRes 4444 export performance of the M4 Max Studio. To my surprise, the export speed was completely bottlenecked by the very expensive inbuilt Apple SSD, cratering to less than 10% of the drives peak write speed.
I repeat the same task, this time exporting to a cheap Thunderbolt 3 external NVMe drive. The results are quite embarrassing, as the external drive maintains a 3 times higher write speed once its SLC cache was exhausted.
The unit under test was the M4 Max Studio, 16C CPU, 40C GPU, 1 TB SSD.
