Sometimes, when modeling, you need to perform a Boolean operation of addition or subtraction. What does this mean in 3DMax? For example, you might need to combine or add two separate objects, or subtract one from another to create a hole at their intersection. This makes it easy to create door and window openings in a blank wall, create complex recesses, or build a complex model piece by piece and then combine the parts into a single object. The Boolean compound modifier in 3Ds Max allows you to do all of this.

The Boolean modifier in 3Ds Max isn't found in the list of standard modifiers. It's located under the Geometry tab - Compound Object - Boolean. Before applying it, you need to select the first object from which you want to subtract, for example, the second. Then, apply the modifier and select the desired operation in its properties. For example, the Substraction (A-B) operation subtracts the second object from the first, allowing you to create holes of different shapes. The Union operation combines objects into one. There are also other interaction options.

Once the desired operation is selected, click the Pick Operand B button and select a second object in the scene. The Boolean modifier in 3ds Max will then perform the operation. For example, this could be a cube placed in a wall. If the subtraction operation is selected, the cube will disappear, and a hole in the wall in the shape of the cube will appear in its place.

This video tutorial demonstrates how to quickly create holes using the Boolean modifier in 3ds Max. This is a useful tool, and it can sometimes quickly solve complex modeling problems.
