Many police officers get confirmation bias when doing their investigations. When they're convinced of something, they will only seek out evidence that their theory is correct. The perfect example is the Thomas Perez Jr. case.
Police were convinced Thomas Perez Jr. "unalived" his father, Thomas Perez Sr., despite there being no evidence Thomas Perez Sr. was even "unalive." They found little, tiny, blood specks in Thomas Perez Sr.'s room, so they took this as confirmation Thomas Perez Jr. did it. The truth? Senior was alive and well at the airport, and he has diabetes, so he needs to prick himself often, leaving behind tiny specks of blood.
