it goes. Second, to maximize quad engagement you want to place your feet lower on the platform. Then, widen your stance to about hip-width apart and turn your feet slightly out to the sides. Before starting the lift, grip the handles tight and pull yourself down. Now we are ready to go. Lower the platform as far down as you can all while keeping your feet and lower back flat on the surface. Is locking your knee joints in leg press safe? This one is quite controversial. First, I would like to clarify that when I say ‘’lockout’’ I mean fully straightening the legs like you would when standing up from a chair. I am not talking about hyperextension where your knee joint would actually bend backwards. There is no scientific evidence to support the idea that locking out will cause damage to normal joints in normal weightlifting. So, unless you have unusually lax joints that hyperextend or have other knee issues it’s totally okey to lock out. Just make sure that you control the weight and decelerate just before the lock out.
