People, today we'll visit abandoned villages in the Arkhangelsk region and a town with the mysterious name of Liinakhamari.
Not far from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome, deep in the forests, live two small villages: Luzhma and Seza. A narrow-gauge railway is the locals' only connection to the outside world. It's simply impossible to get there by car; there's no road. Food, mail, and pensions are all carried there by a small diesel locomotive. This is the only artery that now sustains life there. Even passenger cars no longer travel to the villages.
Liinakhamari – for over half a century, this village was considered secret, and virtually no one except the military could enter the area. Even today, entering requires a pass and a Russian passport. Today we'll tell you about life in this mysterious place after the military left. Why huge concrete circles were built right on the hills, and how entire families live here on ships.
This is Sasha Sabynina, and "How People Live," from the villages of the Russian North in the Murmansk and Arkhangelsk regions.
