It is simply taking an audio mix and preparing it for distribution through various processing.
Mastering is a completely different skill that takes a lot of experience to become proficient at.
This will take up time from your actual production time which should be your main priority unless you are looking to be a mastering engineer.
Spend time on what is the most important part of being a music producer, the actual producing of the song.
ACTION TO TAKE:
Send your track out to mastering engineers, or use mastering services to help you complete this final stage of the production process.
