Russian Dacha Culture EXPOSED | Part 1: The Garden Tour
Welcome back to Karina’s Strolls! 🌿 In today’s video, I take you on a colorful and detailed tour of my friend Tanya’s Russian dacha plot - a place full of flowers, vegetable beds, and that special countryside charm that makes rural Russia feel so alive.
This is the first episode of a three-part mini-series about Tanya’s family dacha:

Dacha culture is a huge part of Russian life. Families escape the city on weekends to spend time in their little garden houses, to grow vegetables, to relax in the banya, and to enjoy fresh air. This plot has been in Tanya’s family for decades, and while her grandmother is now too old to walk around the uneven garden paths, Tanya and her mother lovingly keep the place alive.
Here you’ll see everything: rainwater barrels (we call them bochka), a small rustic banya (sauna), outdoor dishwashing corners, the famous dacha toilet, cozy barbecue zones, and of course endless flowers, strawberries, and tomatoes. You’ll also notice the creative but sometimes quirky “tire art” that many Russians use to decorate their gardens.
What makes this dacha so special is its warmth and personality. Compared to my own plot, Tanya’s feels brighter, more colorful, and full of life. Every corner tells a story, every flowerbed holds a memory. It’s a glimpse into how Russian families care for their land, even when generations change.
