Run AVD Hybrid on Your Own Hardware? AVD Hybrid Changes Everything
Did you know you can now run Azure Virtual Desktop session hosts on your own on-premises hardware? AVD Hybrid is in public preview — and in this video, I'll show you exactly how to deploy it manually, using Hyper-V.
AVD Hybrid solves some of the biggest pain points with cloud-only AVD:
application latency when your databases are on-prem, data sovereignty
requirements, and privacy concerns that previously kept AVD off the table
for some organisations.
With AVD Hybrid, your session hosts run on YOUR
hardware (Hyper-V, Proxmox, Nutanix, even AWS or GCP), but the control
plane stays in Azure.
In this video, I cover:
✅ What AVD Hybrid is and the problems it solves
✅ Why it's a big improvement over Azure Local
✅ Current public preview limitations (including no Windows 11 multi-session)

⚠️ Important limitations to know:
Windows 11 multi-session is NOT supported in public preview
Windows Server (2016/2022/2025) requires RDS CALs
FSLogix needs an on-prem solution (Nutanix Files, Windows file server, etc.)
VM provisioning isn't handled natively by Azure — partners fill that gap
