The Grenadian band M. O. S. S International is highlighted as the vehicle that
advanced an indigenous part of Grenada’s culture. They essentially created a
musical sub-genre that has had a major impact on the Caribbean’s musical
landscape and on our cultural history.
M.O.S.S’ 1991 smash hit JAMBALASEE RULE marked the first time in Grenada’s
history that the indigenous goat-skin drums, conch shells and jab-chants of j’ouvert
morning had made their way into a recording studio and unto a record. Thus
marking the official birth of JAB MUSIC.
We commemorate this classic with the release of the JAMBALASEE RULE RIDDIM
2019. Featuring a new generation of musical artist as well as a veteran of the
industry. Inspector, Lavaman, Skinny Banton, Jab King, Valene Nedd and Terra D
Governor. Our hope is that this music, in the hands of these talented performers, will
be carried forward. Not only to evolve our musical culture but also to keep import
traditions alive.
The cover art for this new riddim is intended to pay homage to the heart and soul of
M.O.S.S. International, Mr. Don Charles. Don was the band’s leader, co-founder and
sound engineer. He is credited by all of the band’s members as being the glue that
kept their endeavors together. Though he is no longer with us. We at,
@jambalaseegrenada dedicate this release to him, in the hopes that his work, his
music and his memory will live on forever.
