Let’s talk microgreens! 🌱
WHAT ARE MICROGREENS?
Microgreens are the young seedlings of salad veggies and herbs. These tiny wonders aren't just flavourful; they're bursting with concentrated nutrients and antioxidants, making them a go-to superfood!
WHY GROW MICROGREENS?
Not much is coming out of our gardens at this time of the year, so growing microgreens is a great way to continue harvesting healthy veggies for you and your family. Additionally, microgreens are one of the quickest and easiest crops to grow – they only take 7-10 days to harvest!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
☑️ 2 propagation trays, one with drain holes
☑️ Seed starting soil
☑️ Microgreens of your choice
5 EASY STEPS
1. Add 1” of seed starting soil to your propagation tray with drain holes.
2. Dampen soil with water.
3. Scatter your seeds densely in an even layer.
4. Provide a dark period by covering the seeds with the other tray until the seeds germinate. When the seeds are kept in the dark, they will stretch, looking for light, which creates longer stems that make harvesting easier.
5. Once your first set of true leaves appear, you can start harvesting by cutting at the soil level.
NOTE
You can keep your harvested microgreens in the fridge for up to 10-12 days.
PRO TIP
Keep a succession of seeds going by starting a second tray of additional greens after one week.
