The events of the new game in the series, The Elder Scrolls V: Skirim - Special Edition, take place 200 years after the events of Oblivion. The war between the Altmer Dominion and the Empire ended 30 years ago with the White-Gold Treaty, which infringed on numerous rights, including the worship of Talos. The Nord organization of Stormcloaks, led by their commander Ulfric Stormcloak, rebelled against the Empire, sparking a civil war in Skyrim. To make the Stormcloaks' name known, Ulfric assassinates Torug, the High King of Skyrim, but is soon captured by Imperial forces in an ambush.
The hero finds himself with the rebels and Ulfric in a wagon being transported to Helgen Keep for execution. Miraculously, the protagonist and all the rebels (except the most impatient) manage to escape the dragon Alduin's attack on the keep, which begins burning everything in its path. After escaping the stronghold, the protagonist is tasked with informing the Jarl of Whiterun, Balgruuf the Elder, of the dragon attack. This simple task begins the hero's incredible adventures in The Elder Scrolls V: Skirim - Special Edition.
