Blas de Lezo: The Incredible Life of the Spanish Hero Who Defeated the British Empire | Documentary
This documentary tells the story of Blas de Lezo, the Spanish hero who defeated and humiliated the British Empire in one of the most unequal and spectacular battles in modern history. Mutilated in combat, but undefeated on the battlefield, Blas de Lezo became a symbol of resilience, military intelligence, and absolute determination.
We explore his naval career, the wounds that earned him the nickname "The Half-Man," and the context of the War of Jenkins' Ear. We relive in detail the Siege of Cartagena de Indias in 1741, when a vastly outnumbered Spanish force managed to halt the largest British fleet ever sent to the Americas. We analyze the strategies employed, the enemy's mistakes, and why this victory shifted the balance of colonial power for decades.
An epic tale about the man who, against all odds, defended the Spanish Empire and wrote one of the most glorious—and silenced—chapters in naval history.
