Sulata - 'Always'
Video for New Zealand solo artist Sulata Foai.
'Always' was an instrumental track included on her CD single 'Never' released on Kane Massey's Deepgrooves label in 1995.
The video was shot inside and outside Alba cafe in Lorne Street, Auckland City approx July 1995.
Alba was a regular haunt of Kane Massey who's Kaiun studios were in the building next door.
The video features many people involved in the Deepgrooves scene at the time including rapper Ermehn, singer/songwriter Greg Fleming, Rob Salmon and Ollie Green from Urban Disturbance, Andrew B. White, Sulata herself of course, and other names who can't be ID'd (please list them if you know).
'Always' was produced by Simon Holloway (now of Beaver Studios) at the Lab and mixed by Simon and Chris Sinclair.
Other tracks on the single included 'Never' (co-written with Simon Holloway) and 'Motion' co-written with the late Phil Fuemana.
Sulata's debut album 'Kia Koe' was released in early 1996 after some delay, on Deepgrooves through Festival Records. It was a great album but ahead of it's time.
After winning 'most promising female vocalist' at the New Zealand Music Awards in 1995 Sulata joined award winning Tokelauan group Te Vaka.
