You can do this visually by observing from a landing point to judge for yourself if a location is a possible ship site..

Typically in the systems where I go shopping, Bohr, Fermi, Huygens, Archimedes ... level 75 planets basically. Since I spend a lot of time in those systems and wandering the surfaces of the various planets and moons, what is common and what is not common is easy for me to notice.

When seeing an indication of a POI of some sort, that is not visible or fully visible from your landing point, those locations tend to now be locations where a landed ship might be.

1) if the remote location is obscured and requires a visit to determine, then likely.

2) If it is a POI you have been to before and seen ships, pre-the no more ships landing update, it has a likely chance of still spawning a parked capturable ship, so I am finding, so likely.

3) If it is a normally no loot bearing POI, that has a landing pad, normally the POI is just no NPCs or random what NPCs might be there, it is a place with a chance of having a landed ship.

4) If the POI is on top of a bluff, not the Dogstar plant, and isn't one you have ever gotten a mission to go remove a "Boss", then there are 2 or 3 of those I have seen that will sometimes have a landed ship that can be captured.

5) If you see a location in the distance that isn't one of the typical "loot warehouses", it's seems like something that's nothing; but you cannot see much of it at all and you have always just thought not i'm going there isn't any loot, these locations seem to be now where I find parked ships.

This particular POI where I find this Ghost is a structure that I have seen pirates at before, got ambushed in fact, have a video on that. So from the distance I recognized this as the dilapidated old base where sometimes a group of spacers might be. There were no other clues, no landing site marker picked up by the scanner, nothing visually observable from your landing spot.

To me this all implies the intent to incentivize actual exploration, as in taking a walk 500 - 1500m away, to a spot you cannot completely make out and find the activation energy to go over there and make use of that part of the map. A find is not guaranteed, your experience with POI recognition at a distance will help you know what is a likely and what might just be a nice walk off to a place on the horizon while listening to the nice music and the wind.
