🖥️ In this video, I walk you through how to SSH into a Windows PC from another Windows machine — setting up OpenSSH, configuring the connection, and accessing a remote machine directly from the command line.
SSH is not just a Linux tool anymore. Windows now supports SSH natively and it is one of the most powerful and lightweight ways to remotely access and manage a Windows machine without needing third party software.
✅ What you'll learn:
What SSH is and how it works on Windows
How to enable and configure OpenSSH Server on the target Windows PC
How to connect to a remote Windows machine via SSH from another Windows PC
How to verify the connection is working correctly
Security considerations when enabling SSH on Windows machines
🛡️ WHY THIS MATTERS FROM A SECURITY PERSPECTIVE:
SSH provides an encrypted channel for remote access - unlike older protocols like Telnet which transmit data in plain text. However, an exposed SSH port is also one of the most targeted entry points by attackers. Knowing how to enable it correctly, restrict access, and monitor it is a critical skill for any Windows administrator. An SSH port left open and unmanaged is an invitation.
⚠️ NOTE: Always restrict SSH access to trusted IP addresses where possible and disable password authentication in favour of key-based authentication for stronger security.
