1. Open SolidWorks and create a new part or assembly document.

2. Activate the Sketch mode by selecting "Sketch" from the toolbar or by clicking on the "Sketch" button in the CommandManager.

3. Select the plane or face where you want to create your sketch. You can choose from the available planes in the FeatureManager or any existing face in your model.

4. Once the sketch environment is active, go to the "Sketch" tab in the CommandManager and click on the "Sketch Picture" button in the "Sketch Tools" group. Alternatively, you can right-click on the sketch area and select "Sketch Picture" from the context menu.

5. In the "Sketch Picture" dialog box, click on the "Browse" button to locate and select the image file you want to import. SolidWorks supports various image formats such as JPEG, PNG, and BMP.

6. After selecting the image file, you have several options to control how the picture is displayed and positioned. You can choose to scale the image proportionally or non-proportionally, set the transparency, and specify the origin and position of the picture.

7. Once you have configured the picture settings, click "OK" to import the image into your sketch. The picture will appear as an overlay in the sketch area.

8. Now, you can use the picture as a reference to create or modify your sketch geometry. You can trace the contours of the picture using sketch tools like lines, arcs, circles, and splines. You can also align existing sketch entities with the features in the picture.

9. As you sketch, you may need to zoom in or out and pan the sketch area to better align your geometry with the picture. Use the mouse scroll wheel or the zoom and pan tools in the graphics area to navigate as needed.

10. Continue sketching and modifying your geometry until you have achieved the desired result. Remember to use constraints and dimensions to fully define your sketch and make it parametric.

11. Once you're satisfied with the sketch, exit the sketch mode by clicking on the "Exit Sketch" button in the CommandManager or by selecting another feature in the FeatureManager.

12. You can now use your sketch as a basis for creating 3D features, such as extrusions, revolves, or sweeps, depending on your design requirements.

By utilizing the picture tracking functionality in SolidWorks, you can effectively incorporate reference images into your sketches and accurately reproduce or design complex shapes and profiles.
