Hey Fam,

So my friend Trudi has a 2012 Macbook Pro and IT IS SLOW.

She works in film and tv and is constantly on the move and so having to wait around for technology to catch up with her is not always ideal.

With all my Apple knowledge and experience and also because I recently did an SSD upgrade with the Kingston A400 480GB SSG. I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to upgrade her Macbook Pro

So lets begin this 2012 Macbook Pro upgrade!

I picked up the drive for a bargain of $109 at JW Computers in Sydney so if you want to get the same drive I'll leave the link down below.

The total time to perform the job was around an 1hr plus another 24hrs for backup and restore of her data.

The performance difference was incredible...as expected.

We went from around 30MB/s to over 300MB/s !

Check out the video for more benchmark results and if you have any questions about the process then make sure to let me know.

Here are the steps for how I completed the upgrade and all of the necessary links. See you in the next video! Cheers.

Step 1: Complete Time Machine backup of her data from the old 500gb HDD onto an external HDD which took about 12hrs to complete.

Step 2: Create a bootable USB with Mac OS Mojave in preparation for installing the 480GB Kingston SSD

Step 3: Remove the bottom cover of the Macbook Pro and disconnect the battery. Then remove the HDD and replace it with the SSD drive. Once done reconnect the battery and put the bottom cover back on.

Step 4: Insert the bootable USB drive you created in Step 2 into the USB port and then turn on the computer and hold down option immediately. Once the boot loader loads on the screen select the option for "Install Mac OS Mojave" and wait for it to load.

Step 5: Once at the begin installation screen you will need to open Disk Utility and format the SSD and give it a name. I called mine " Macintosh HD" and then begin the installation of Mac OS Mojave. It shouldn't take longer then 60minutes.

Step 6: Complete the setup and then when prompted either restore from the Time Machine backup which you did in step 1 or continue by setting up the Mac with a completely new profile and then manually copying any of the data you need from the External HDD.

Step 7: Install any applications you may need again and thats it!
