Ielts vs Toefl
Good about ielts
1) Listning
-- in ielts
You first look at the questions for about 30 secs, then the audio
starts and you answer while the audio is playing. And the questions are in order.
-- in toefl
You first listen to the audio, meanwhile you can note down important points and then
you are shown the questions.
2) Speaking
in ielts --
3 sections
i) Starting with questions related to you (Why are you giving the test, favorite colors etc.)
ii) Solo -- here you talk at a stretch for about 2 mins on a topic given to you, you get 1 min to prepare.
iii) Questions and discussions about the part 2 talk.
in toefl
4 sections
i) Topic will be given to you and you have to speak for 45 secs. 15 secs are given for preparation
ii) There will be a passage that you have to read followed by a conversation, you have to speak
in some detail about the opinion of the speaker in the audio and relate it to the issues in
the passage (30 secs to prepare 60 seconds to speak)
iii) read a academic passage followed by listning to a audio related to that passage and summarize
(30 secs to prepare and 60sec to speak)
iv) Listen to a lecture, 20 secs to prepare and 60 secs to speak.
Bad about ielts
1) Speaking either takes place a 5 days before the scheduled test date or 1 day after.
They decide when will it take place and they dont listen to any excuses (except medical emergency)
2) No ielts at home
