Ondina Peteani, Italy's first partisan courier, operated without heed of the risks she faced against a regime that had already been guilty of inhumane discrimination against Jews with its racial laws since 1938, and which later became complicit in Hitler's devastating war project. Ondina, driven, as all young people should be, by a desire to make the world we live in more livable and free, would later face the pain of the Auschwitz concentration camp with dignity and courage, from which she was liberated along with a few other survivors of that death camp.
