You might think Japanese swords are incredibly sharp, as they can easily cut through even the toughest bamboo. While katanas are indeed very sharp, they are also quite fragile: if struck at the wrong angle or against a hard object, they can easily bend. This is why many swordsmen fail during demonstrations where they cut through twisted straw mats. A successful cut requires not only strength but also technique and experience. This is why beginners struggle even with paper cutting, while more experienced swordsmen do it effortlessly, and true masters can even cut through paper with a wooden sword.
