To draw using the virtual ruler in Microsoft Word in late 2025, you can use the Draw tab to create perfectly straight lines at any specific angle. First, ensure the Draw tab is visible (if not, right-click the ribbon, select Customize the Ribbon, and check Draw), then click the Ruler button in the Stencils group to make the semi-transparent straightedge appear on your page. You can reposition the ruler by clicking and dragging it with your mouse, and to change its angle, simply place your cursor over the ruler and use your mouse scroll wheel (or two-finger slide on a touchpad) to rotate it in 1-degree increments—holding Alt while scrolling will rotate it in 15-degree jumps. Once the ruler is at your desired position and angle, select a Pen or Pencil tool and draw along the edge of the ruler; the "ink" will automatically snap to the straight line, ensuring a perfect result even if your hand is shaky.
