Cloud computing has established itself as a unique paradigm to deliver computing as a utility to a wide range of scientific, enterprise, government, industrial and consumer applications. However, there was much concern in both industry and academia about security, performance, resource and usage monitoring for cloud applications. CloudStack has a long proven track record, vibrant community and extensive online documentation. However, topics such as security monitoring, resource usage, host metrics, application metrics and IP address allocation in the cloud are still highly under-investigated and poorly covered. In this talk, we consider a typical SMB private cloud use case with Apache CloudStack as a cloud orchestration tool. We are going to show how to set up Prometheus metrics exporter and visualize critical cloud application metrics with Grafana. We will run live monitoring for important resources like CPU/RAM/Storage usage, IP pools usage and VM metrics.

Taking place over 5 days (November 8 – 12), the CloudStack Collaboration Conference 2021 was the first virtual annual get-together of the Apache CloudStack community. It was attended by over 420 people from over 25 countries, from leading enterprises, cloud and IaaS providers, managed service providers, software providers and telcos. The Conference proved to be a resounding success for our community, attracting not only those with extensive experience with CloudStack, but many cloud engineers and IaaS architects new to the technology.
