We all agree that Saturn is beautiful. However, scientists have discovered an exoplanet with rings 200 times larger than Saturn's. This planet is called J1407B. It orbits a young star 433 light-years from Earth.
Scientists typically identify planets through a method called transit. When a planet passes in front of a star, it blocks its light, reducing the amount of light reaching Earth. A planet as large as Jupiter typically only blocks 1% of its star's light, but this planet blocks up to 95%. Its rings are estimated to be 180 million km in diameter, greater than the distance between Earth and the sun.
