Finding x which is in a power can be quite difficult. However, using a basic set of rules, it does not become so hard. Watch the video to understand what I am saying, and remember your basic logarithmic rules to fully understand the video. I will make more of these in the future, so I’d there are more clarifying questions, feel free to ask. But here is the general formula to find the variable which is in the exponent.
1. Log or natural log both sides, I normally prefer to natural log it.
2. Using basic log rules, take the power down and multiply it by the ln or log numerical value.
3. Use algebra to expand the equation, then move the values with x onto one side of the equation.
4. Factor out the x, then divide the numerical value.
5. Use more log rules and algebra to find your final value. This is the set of rules you should follow almost every single time. I cannot think of any other examples where you do not follow these rules.
In this video, I presented two ways to solve for x, one which is the really easy way, but does not work every single time. Only works when the bases are similar to each other. The other is the one I just explained. If you didn’t understand how to do this, I hope you now learned how to do this.
