"Dear Freddie Mercury"
Breakthru (in Spanish, Avanzar) is the sixth song and second single from the album The Miracle, released in 1989 by the British rock band Queen. The single reached #7 in the UK.
The song begins with 30 seconds of slow vocals accompanied by a piano, which is part of an unreleased Freddie Mercury song called "A New Life is Born", and then transitions to fast and happy rock, which is Breakthru, written by Roger Taylor.
Spike Lee provided backing vocals for this song. It should be noted that the bass "riff" by John Deacon aims to convey the sensation of the movement of the train.
The video for the song features the members playing the song on a train called "Miracle Express." At minute 3:40 of the video, Kaposi's Sarcoma lesions are visible on Freddie's wrists, a symptom of AIDS that was already evident in the singer. Roger Taylor's partner, model Debbie Leng, also appears in the video. The video was filmed at the Nene Valley Railway near Peterborough.
