Canon released 24 EF-S lenses that can be used on 35 EF-S cameras. 3 are primes and 21 are zoom lenses.
12 of them are different versions of the same kit zoom lenses. As a result, it's really easy to find a deal on a used kit lens.
The EF-S lens mount is discontinued, replaced by the RF-S mount for newer Canon mirrorless cameras. EF-S lenses can be used with an adapter. There is no way to use EF-M lenses on cameras with an EF-S lens mount.
EF-S lenses can not be used on full frame Canon EF mount digital cameras. An EF-S lens will not be able to be mounted to the camera.
Canon EF mount lenses can be used on EF-S cameras. There will be a 1.6x crop factor that isn't great for a wide angle zoom lens. It can be a helpful for telephoto lenses where the improved optical performance can be taken advantage of.
My most important piece of advice is to buy a lens with image stabilization (IS). It'll help improve image sharpness with telephoto lenses.
Lenses with STM motors will be better the USM motors for recording video. They are quieter.
