In this episode of the NextLabs Cybersecurity Expert Series, our guest Alper Kerman, dives into what Zero-Trust Architecture is, its efficacy, core components, and deployment options.

Zero trust is the term for an evolving set of cybersecurity paradigms that move defenses from static, network- based perimeters to focus on users, assets, and resources. A zero-trust architecture (ZTA) uses zero trust principles to plan industrial and enterprise infrastructure and workflows. Zero trust assumes there is no implicit trust granted to assets or user accounts based solely on their physical or network location (i.e., local area networks versus the internet) or based on asset ownership (enterprise or personally owned). For more information on Zero-Trust, please visit the NIST paper on implementing ZTA: https://www.nccoe.nist.gov/sites/defa...

Alper Kerman is a Security Engineer and Project Manager at the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE), a part of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Alper currently serves as the technical lead for the zero-trust demonstration project at the NCCoE and has more than 30 years of experience in IT that spans software engineering, application security, and IT project management for other government agencies as well as private industry. This experience has given him expertise in Zero-Trust Architecture.
