CRUMBRUSTER is my 5th collection of landfill folk songs from the quarantine era. I wrote these during the California wildfire season of August 2020 when the pandemic seemed never ending and election dread was growing. Not much to look at but listen along in playlist form during a round of weed pulling or box cutting. Ciao!
I was lost in another day
All concepts turned to grey
Aligned my eyes and focused on the pain
Woke up on the side of bed
That always twists my head
Six feet under and three feet off the floor
Why don’t ya
Wait and see where you wind up
I was crusty and confused
I was intelligent and smooth
I was mixed emotions muddling my brain
My outlook was turning brown
I was up and I was down
I was standing there then found myself sideways
I was lost in another month
Thought I had a hunch
That I had the key to happiness and health
But the key was a finger bone
Real skinny and skeletal
It was just death himself pointing down to hell
That’s just as well
