Nice company added to the above, from another cyclist I met during the climb from Tamaimo.
The route that got me to Teide is said to be one of the smoothest with lesser traffic, mint tarmac and wide roads.
Route that got me on the plateau starts from Puerto di Santiago, passes Los Gigantes and continues to Tamaimo. From here on, there is only one way to get up.
53km of continous climbing with 2300m of gained elevation.
