The Ferrell Phelps Show in Houston, Texas
True Hip Hop may not be completely lifeless, but to say the least, it is in a comatose state. Innovators who procure the metal dexterity, to resuscitate this obscurity known as Hip hop, are few and far between. Which brings me to the “Suicide Squad Cypher”, that was birth out of Houston, Tx. The creative mogul behind this project is none other than George Phelps… aka (Golden Boy)… aka (Mr. SkyTrues). Some of H-Town’s best kept secrets came together for the cover of “Sucker for Pain.” The cover includes Devine (Harley Quinn), Da Son (Deadshot), Goldenboy (Joker), Mfive (Rick Flag) Jboot (Diablo), and Young Bill (Clown Face). I should call this a lyrical production instead of a cover! Super Villains transported from the comic book…to the big screen…to the mic. The genius of it all is quite fascinating.
So let’s submerge into the lyrical content of this production. I will decline going into too many details, because I prefer that you check it out for yourself. Personally, I will compare the combination of artist in this production to a bowl of bomb ass seafood gumbo. The roux (the beat) was just right for the perfect ingredients (the artist). Each artist uniquely conveyed why they deserved to be a part of this iconic production. Mfive’s literary references commands the beat as he opens up the cypher. Devine’s verse embodies the Harley Quin spirit. Her verse transforms into a lethal weapon as she keeps it sexy. “She owned that shit! She owned it”. Da Son energetically murders with metaphors. Young Bill delivers an authentic/ concrete street chronicle; sprinkled with a touch of animation like only he can do. If you have been living on Mars for the past few years, GoldenBoy’s verse will bring you up to speed. A true lyrical narration of modern times. A true cerebrum workout. The Joker was playing no jokes with this cypher! Jboot intensely closes out the cypher with a synopsis of what he brings to the squad, which is FIRE! Go check it out for yourself!
