One of the main factors contributing to a healthy lifestyle is having the right motivation. You can come up with a thousand reasons for violating the principles of a healthy lifestyle, but if everyone identifies the benefits of constructive behavior toward their health, then they can make the decision to give up unnecessary things to live longer and healthier.

There are five main reasons for adopting a healthy lifestyle: quitting smoking, avoiding alcohol abuse, eating right, and maintaining an adequate level of physical activity. Above all, this is necessary to live longer. We are all mortal, but everyone wants to live the longest, most fulfilling, and highest-quality life possible.

A study involving more than 125,000 people followed over 30 years in the United States revealed five so-called low-risk factors. These include: quitting smoking, being physically active for more than 30 minutes daily, a healthy diet, drinking less than 15 grams of pure alcohol (as measured in pure alcohol) per day, and a body mass index (BMI) between 18.5 and 24.5.

Adhering to all five of these healthy lifestyle factors leads to a 14-year increase in life expectancy for women and a 12.2-year increase for men. Therefore, it can be argued that such simple behavioral changes can lead to a significantly longer life.

In addition to life expectancy, quality of life is also important. There is a wealth of compelling evidence that maintaining healthy physiological behaviors and avoiding unhealthy habits improves quality of life. For example, a study conducted by the CDC (the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States) showed that a healthy lifestyle—specifically, proper nutrition and adequate physical activity, combined with avoiding unhealthy habits—results in a 66% reduction in mortality from colon and breast cancer, a 65% reduction in mortality from cardiovascular disease, and a 57% reduction in mortality from other causes.

Furthermore, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Association of Clinical Oncologists have demonstrated a significant link between obesity and cancer. The lower the percentage of body fat, the lower the risk of cancer. Of course, no one will live forever, but reaching a certain age while reducing the risk of premature mortality, such as a heart attack in a man aged 60-65, is entirely achievable. Furthermore, cognitive parameters, in particular the risk of dementia, are reduced by almost a third thanks to a healthy lifestyle.

Beyond the quality of your health, a healthy lifestyle also improves your appearance. For example, quitting smoking has a beneficial effect on your dental health and skin condition.

A healthy sleep pattern also plays a significant role. It's crucial to get enough sleep, get enough hours of sleep, and maintain adequate hydration by drinking 1.5-2.5 liters of fluid per day. Don't be afraid to drink more fluids, as it's virtually impossible to become overly hydrated if your kidneys are healthy. Your body will eliminate all excess fluid, improving your overall health and regulating your water balance. Adequate sleep, proper nutrition, and proper hydration can help reduce body fat, eliminate puffiness under the eyes, and improve the condition of your skin and hair. A balanced diet containing all the necessary micronutrients and nutrients is also incredibly important.

The next consideration is the financial aspect. By adopting healthy habits and giving up unhealthy ones early on, you can save money on treatment and rehabilitation costs in the future. While some might argue that buying healthy food is expensive, it's worth noting that cooking at home is quite affordable. With careful budgeting, this can be done without breaking the bank. These expenses aren't really costs per se—they're an investment in yourself for the future.

The positive impact of a healthy lifestyle on mood is also worth noting. Research at the Mayo Clinic has shown that physical activity for about 30 minutes a day increases endorphin production and normalizes serotonin levels in the brain, leading to a reduction in depression, a stabilized mood, and, as a result, higher energy levels and a more optimistic outlook on life.

Therefore, there are five main reasons for leading a healthy lifestyle: improved longevity, improved quality of life, the ability to look attractive and get in shape, savings, and an improved mood. These are all compelling motivations for cutting out unnecessary things and developing healthy habits.
