The GST Council announced relief on various products and services used by the middle class during its 53rd meeting
This includes exemption of rents up to ₹20,000 a month paid for accommodation outside college campus
According to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the GST exemption on hostel accommodation is intended for students or working class and can be availed only if the stay is up to 90 days.
