INNengine E-REX: So Powerful, Even To Fly Planes
EVs beware; this 120-hp 0.5-liter “one-stroke” engine is being hailed as the ultimate game-changer.
The INNengine e-REX is an opposed-piston engine that generates four times as much power as a 4-stroke and twice more than a 2-stroke. The e-REX is actually a two-stroke engine, but it is named "one-stroke" by an external institution to distance it from the drawbacks of traditional two-stroke engines. The e-REX engine is 70% lighter and 55% smaller than a conventional 4-stroke engine, making it suitable for various applications such as range-extenders in electric vehicles and power generation.
Since the invention of internal combustion engines, automakers have fitted their vehicles with three basic types of engines; two-stroke, four-stroke, and rotary engines. Although each differs from the other regarding fuel economy and power density, the general operation is very similar. The air-fuel mixture goes into the cylinder, gets ignited, and pushes the piston (or rotor), which in turn rotates the engine’s crankshaft, thus generating motion.
