In this introductory lesson, Liz walks you through the structure of the entire course and explains how it fits into the full Nail Hub education system. If you’re new to this series, this video will help you understand the progression from basic gel nail education all the way to advanced hard gel extensions.
Hard gel sculpting and nail extensions are some of the most advanced techniques in professional nail services. This course is designed to teach you how to safely create artificial length, structure, and strength while maintaining healthy natural nails.
Before diving into the hands-on lessons, this video outlines the full curriculum so you understand exactly what we’ll be covering and how each section builds on the previous one.
What You’ll Learn in This Course
This Level 4 course is organized into six major sections, each covering critical aspects of hard gel and extension services:
Section 1 – Gel Choices
• Hard gel vs soak-off gel
• Understanding gel viscosity and formulation
• One-step gels vs multi-step systems
• How to evaluate and test gel products beyond marketing claims
Section 2 – Extension Methods
• Nail tips and traditional tip applications
• Silk extensions and repair techniques
• Sculpting extensions using nail forms
• Full coverage tips and reverse forms
• Pros and cons of different extension methods
Section 3 – Nail Structure
• Proper apex placement
• C-curve and pinching techniques
• Building strength into extended nails
• Preventing cracked or weak sidewalls
Section 4 – Finish Filing & Shaping
• Hand filing vs e-file finishing
• Refining nail structure and surface
• Sculpting common nail shapes including square, oval, almond, and stiletto

Section 5 – Troubleshooting
• Addressing lifting, pocket lifting, and teetering

Important Prerequisites
This is Level 4 training, which means it builds on the foundational courses:
• Level 1 – Gel Nail Chemistry & Basics
• Level 2 – Gel Nail Overlay Course
• Level 3 – E-File Techniques
If you have not completed those courses yet, it is highly recommended that you start there first. Hard gel sculpting requires a strong understanding of gel chemistry, nail structure, and safe filing techniques.
