In this Gimbal Guru Video I show you, why I’m fascinated by the 360 photos which you can create with the Insta360 ONE X2 and why I think the ONE X2 is the best consumer 360 photo camera on the market right now.
Please keep in mind, this is a 360 video and you can move around! Please explore the area, while I tell you some facts.
All the 360 photos which I show you now, were taken with the Insta360 ONE X2 and the Standard Photo function. I used the automatic modus, where the ONE X2 determines the shutter speed, ISO value and white balance automatically. What really fascinates me, is the crisp, clear image and the strong colors which you get out raw of the ONE X2. All the photos you see now are taken raw out of the cam without any adjustments. I edited nothing. Especially in this photo you can really feel the sunrise vibe, with the warm colors! This photo I shot in the forest. Again, I really like the colors. In my opinion this photo is nearly perfect raw out of the camera. I think there are no more adjustments needed. I also think the Insta360 ONE X2 does quite a well job with the white balance. All photos you see, are JPEGs with a resolution of 6080 x 3040 pixels, which equals about 18,5 megapixels. The Insta360 ONE X2 has a fix aperture with f2.0.
Here is another photo in the forest. The ONE X2 does quite a good job in this difficult light situation in my opinion. If you take a look at the invisible selfiestick, you can see that the image is also well stitched. It’s nearly impossible to find a stiching line.

360 photo cameras like the ONE X2 are also a great tool for shooting architecture. This example shows a 360 photo in front of a house.
Here from another perspective. I told you before all the photo you see are JPEGs raw out of the cam. The Insta360 ONE X2 also allows you to shot 360 photos in DNG. The DNG format is a RAW photo format, which gives you more freedom & possibility in post editing. Now I blend in the exported DNG photo, which I edited in Adobe Lightroom. I also applied sharpening.
The DNG format is for all users who want to squeeze out the maximum photo quality of the Insta360 ONE X2. In my opinion the image quality is slightly better, but the effort is much higher. You have to stich the DNG photo first with the Insta360 Studio and then you had to edit the stitched DNG with a RAW Photo converter like Adobe Lightroom.
Here you see a side by side comparison of an enlarged image section. Please keep in mind the edited DNG photo was sharped in post and the JPEG is raw out of the cam.
I recommend you to use the standard JPEGs, because I think the quality is very good and the additional effort is not related to the minimal better results you get using the RAW DNG format.
Of course, the Insta360 ONE X2 is also perfect for creating 360 roomtours. Here is an example 360 indoor photo. 360 roomtours are getting more and more popular. With the Insta360 ONE X2 you can easily create 360 roomtours in combination with Matterport or similar programs.
Here is another indoor 360 photo. A cool feature of the ONE X2 is the HDR photo function. If you active the HDR function, the ONE X2 takes photos in different exposures and merges them to one HDR photo together. And this is the output JPEG results.
Of course you can active the DNG format in the HDR function. Then you get DNG photos in different exposures, which you can merge together to one final HDR 360 photo in Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop. This possibility allows you to get the absolute maximum out of the Insta360 ONE X2.
