In Episode 30 we look at the lingering appeal of Pop, an art making strategy, which was first developed in the late 1950s and continues to motivate artists today. We first head to Times Square where actor Adrien Brody has recently installed an original work at the global flagship location of the fast food chain Raising Canes.
We then take the train uptown to the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Guggenheim Museum, where there’s an exhibition on view titled Guggenheim Pop: 1960 to Now featuring work from Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg and a slew of younger artists who don’t seem to have much to do with pop art at all.
We conclude the episode with a trip into the depths of Bushwick Brooklyn to visit The Facebook Marketplace Gallery, a DIY basement gallery organized by a group of young artists looking for an alternative way to make a little cash from their art.
