Air Crash Investigation - Collision
The Mato Grosso Collision was a major aviation accident that occurred on September 29, 2006. A Gol Transportes Aéreos Boeing 737-8EH (flight GLO 1907 Manaus-Brasilia-Rio de Janeiro) and an ExcelAire Embraer EMB-135BJ Legacy 600 (charter flight São José dos Campos-Manaus) collided over Brazil and Mato Grosso. The Boeing crashed into the Amazon rainforest, breaking up into several pieces mid-air, killing all 154 people on board (148 passengers and six crew members). The Embraer made an emergency landing at the airport in the city of Sierra de Cachimbu. All seven people on board (five passengers and two pilots) were uninjured, but the plane's left wing was seriously damaged.
