The race was held on May 13, 1950 at Silverstone, a former RAF airfield in Northamptonshire, England. The event was known as the British Grand Prix and was the first of seven races that year, forming the inaugural Formula One World Championship season.
A total of 21 drivers participated in the race, driving for teams such as Alfa Romeo, Maserati, and Cooper. The race was won by Giuseppe "Nino" Farina, an Italian driver who drove for Alfa Romeo. He started the race from pole position and led for most of the race, ultimately winning by 2.5 seconds over his teammate Luigi Fagioli.
