ÞINGVELLIR (THINGVELLIR) NATIONAL PARK: WHERE ICELAND BEGAN! (4K)
Þingvellir (also known as Thingvellir) National Park was the site of the first assembly (parliament) of Iceland in 930 A.D. Þingvellir was the first national park in Iceland and it features stunning rock formations and great views of lakes, rivers, fields, and mountains. Þingvellir is part of Iceland's Golden Circle (along with Geysir Hot Springs and Gullfoss waterfalls). During the Viking period, which started in 800 A.D., many people came to Iceland from Norway and Norway's laws and government were used as a model for Iceland. Over the centuries, Iceland was also under Danish rule and it wasn't until 1944 that Iceland gained its full independence.
