Solo Traveling in Russia with Eleonora
"You know you can only count on yourself, but the feeling of loneliness is something else."
Eleonora Sacco is a 28-year-old author, podcaster, and travel consultant who has been traveling alone since she was 20, primarily in Eastern Europe. Travel is life for her. Her favorite countries are Georgia, Armenia, the Caucasus, and Ukraine, but her first love was Russia, which has remained in her memory because at 18, she was fortunate enough to see a play dedicated to the life of Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya. She has traveled extensively in Ukraine: "What happened in the last few months has left me truly shocked, especially since I have so many friends on both sides; it was a pain I can't describe. Many cities I knew no longer exist, and I don't know if I'll want to go back to see what they're like afterwards."
Traveling alone is a unique experience because it's also a journey of self-discovery, of one's limits and strengths. As Eleonora says, you have to make yourself comfortable as a travel companion, you have no choice, but you have the great opportunity to understand who you are.
