Position Lock
Position Lock prevents clips from being moved horizontally (left or right) and disables all ripple operations. It essentially locks your timeline elements in place, ensuring everything stays perfectly in sync and cannot be accidentally misaligned.
Why Use Position Lock?
This feature is primarily used during the final stages of post-production once a cut has been "locked" (or as close to locked as directors and producers will allow). It allows you to make precise, surgical changes without the risk of throwing your video out of sync with audio that may be undergoing a final mix elsewhere.
With Position Lock enabled, you can still:
• Perform Replace edits.
• Slip clips and Roll edits.
• Apply Resolve FX and other OpenFX.
• Adjust any parameters inside the Inspector.
The only restriction is that you cannot perform any action that changes a clip's timeline position or ripples other sections of the timeline.
How to Enable Position Lock
There are two ways to activate this feature depending on your workflow needs:
1. Position Lock All Tracks
To lock the entire timeline, click the Position Lock button located in the toolbar directly above the Timeline. When enabled, the individual Lock icons on every track will change to indicate that Position Lock is active across the board.
2. Position Lock Individual Tracks
For more granular control, you can enable Position Lock on a track-by-track basis. Command-click (Mac) or Ctrl-click (Windows) any track’s standard Lock button.
🔓 To Release: Simply click the track's Lock icon again to disable the lock and return to normal editing.
