I'm diving deeper into the specific controls of the Wallenstein FX85 on today's episode. With two different ropes hanging off the side of this tractor skidding winch, it can be a bit confusing when to pull which one. Today I'll talk about the construction of this winch and show you how I use both ropes to control line speed and log skidding. I"ll also go through the construction of this skidding winch up close so you can get a good idea of the construction. If you've never seen one of these skidding winches up close, today's a good chance to see exactly what makes them so simple, yet so powerful when attached to a tractor. One thing is for certain, this is probably the best implement that I own for my tractor as it makes what used to be heavy laborious tasks possible. Skidding trees from thick cover was impossible before as I couldn't get my tractor close enough in a stand of trees to pull out logs. Now as long as I"m around 165 feet from the log, it's coming with me with nothing more than a firm pull on the skidding winch rope. Now that's a beautiful thing! Glad you're all here for the show. Here we go!
