How to Remove Unwanted Survey Databases in Civil 3D | Survey Database & Figure Prefix Database
Learn how to remove unwanted survey databases in Civil 3D and fix old survey databases still appearing in the Survey tab of new drawings.
#How to Delete the Created Local Survey Database
#Method-1: Delete the Created Survey Database Folder
i) Open Toolspace → Survey tab.
ii) Right-click the Survey database → Click Set working folder..
iii) “Set Working Folder” window will open
iv) Select the “Folder” you want to delete
v) Press the “Delete” key on the keyboard.
vi) Close the window.
vii) The Created Survey Database will disappear.
Note: Before deleting the folder, ensure that the created survey database are closed and not in “Open for Edit” mode. ✅
For easy understanding, “Created Survey Database” is shown in bold, while the others are in normal text.
#Method-2: Delete the Created Survey Database Folder Manually
i) Open Toolspace → Survey tab.
ii) Right-click the Survey database → Click Set working folder..
iii) Note the folder path.
Typical path example:
C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Autodesk\Civil 3D Projects
iv) Close Civil 3D.
v) Open the folder in Windows Explorer.
vi) Delete the folder corresponding to the created survey database name.
vii) Reopen Civil 3D → Survey tab → Created database will disappear. ✅
#How to Delete Created Figure Prefix Database Manually
First Steps is to Show the Hidden Files
This PC → Click View → Expand Show → Select Hidden Items
Typical folder path:
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\C3D 2020\eng\Survey
Note: If you are using a different version of Civil 3D, “C3D 2020” will be replaced with your installed version.
Select and delete only the file with the “.fdb_xdef” extension.
• Delete the file named practice code.fdb_xdef (the file you created).
• Delete the file named test-code.fdb_xdef (the file you created).
Reopen Civil 3D → Survey tab → the created Figure Prefix Database will disappear. ✅
