After completing the masters program at American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, Ms. Laura Lane moved to Los Angeles and was cast almost immediately as the female lead in the Hunter television series. She went on to have a reoccurring role on the L.A. Law television series for one year, and The Nanny for six years.
After ten years in Los Angeles, Professor Lane moved to Austin—drawn by family and a lifestyle more suitable for raising her young daughter, Kate. When she began teaching at Texas State, she had no idea how much teaching would positively impact her life. "I had great teachers in graduate school, and they were really inspiring, but that couldn't completely prepare me for how much I would love it. I love teaching and I love these students, and they make me so much better in my work. Light-years better." Laura teaches solely in the BFA Acting Program, which accepts students by audition only.
Professor Lane knows first hand, though, that acting is a demanding career, and she emphasizes the importance of balance in the students' lives. "You have to really have an understanding about how to make your life rich and full, without making it solely about work." Laura considers herself lucky that what she does for a living is also her hobby, but balance with her family is clearly a priority.
