Crocodile Escapes Congo Plane Crash
CONGO – A loose crocodile caused a plane crash in Congo, killing 20 people and leaving one passenger unharmed.
The incident occurred on August 25, 2010, when a Filair flight crashed 500 meters from Bandundu Airport.
The Let-410 flight reportedly departed from Kinshasa (the capital of Congo), with stops in Kiri, Bokoro, Semendwa, and Bandundu.
As a result of the crash, 18 passengers and two pilots were killed, while only one passenger survived, reportedly with serious injuries.
Initially, the cause of the crash was thought to be fuel exhaustion.
However, according to testimony from a survivor to local media outlet Jeune Afrique, the crash occurred because a passenger had smuggled a crocodile onto the plane.
The crocodile was kept in a carry-on bag and hidden from other passengers and crew.
However, the crocodile escaped mid-flight and moved around the cabin, causing chaos.
Everyone panicked and began running to the front of the plane, causing further problems.
The passenger told authorities that the frightened flight attendant immediately ran to the cockpit, followed by other passengers.
This caused an uneven weight distribution on the plane and disrupted the aircraft's center of gravity.
Unfortunately, the pilot lost control of the plane, and it ultimately crashed into a house in Bandundu.
The crocodile survived the plane crash, but was immediately killed with a machete by authorities upon its discovery.
