You can give each marker a unique name, color and position, which adds a nice visual aide while working on your arrangement and throughout the mixing process. Some DAWs, like Logic Pro X, give you a dedicated area where all of your markers can be managed easily all at once.
Timeline markers are a common tool that can be imported and exported between various software programs and hardware devices. Take for instance a handheld digital audio recorder. Most allow you to place markers during recording, which can then be imported into your DAW along with the audio. This makes it easy to keep track of specific events and quickly navigate to them at any time in the production process.
Using timeline markers may seem a bit cumbersome and involved at first. But if you take a little time to customize the experience to meet your personal needs and preferences, it can make it all worth while. Set up custom keystroke commands to create new markers, jump between existing markers, activate loop regions, etc – all without touching your mouse.
