The Flatlander's EFHW Portable antenna is a complete ready to go antenna, a portable High Frequency (HF) antenna for the 40, 20 15, and 10 meter Amateur Radio bands without a tuner. With a 10:1 tuner it is usable on the 30, 17, and 12 meter bands. It is rated for 100 watts digital and SSB.
The Flatlander's EFHW Portable Antenna is now 3D printed from ASA filament which is UV resistant and won’t warp if left out in the sun. ASA filament is used for a lot of outdoor items. With 2 years of testing on hundreds of POTA activations the antenna has held up very well in all weather conditions. The overall dimensions of the Flatlander's EFHW Antenna is 3.375” in diameter, and 2.6” thick and weighs approximately 12ozs.
The antenna has a 49:1 UnUn with the Fair-Rite 2643251002 toroid wound with 18 gauge magnet wire and depending on the band is 85% to 90% efficient. The antenna wire comes as 67ft 6in long and has been pretuned for a sloper configuration with 16in wrapped back for a tuned length of 66ft 2in. The wire is a tough 7 strand 26 gauge copper plated steel wire. This give the purchaser enough wire to fine tune the bands for his/own use. The antenna can be set up in many configurations such as sloper, inverted vee, inverted L, or flat.
Out of the box, the swr is best when the antenna has been tuned in a sloper configuration at a height of 32ft with the UnUn 3ft off the ground for low SWR on the 40, 20, 15, and 10 meter bands. During testing the SWR on the 40, 20, 15, and 10 meter bands was under 1.5 to 1. With no tuner required. The 30, 17, and 12 meter bands require a 10 to 1 tuner. Some final tuning may also be required due to your location and any other antenna configuration. Don't let the size of the antenna fool you, due to it's efficient UnUn it is great for QRP operations. At 5 watts or less every watt counts.
The Flatlander's EFHW Portable antenna is configurable to facilitate Near-Vertical Incident Sky wave (NVIS) communications. It is designed for short to long range portable and man-packable HF communications. For use with POTA, SOTA, Field Day, or any other portable operations. Flatlander's EFHW Portable antenna is ideal for hiking, backpacking, and both tent and Recreational Vehicle (RV) camping. The antenna can be deployed by the operator in the field in less than 15 minutes, using almost any available support, with no masts or guying required.
The antenna wire is wound around the Inner Shell making the antenna easy to manage and quicker to deploy and take down than other antennas with the standard figure 8 winders. The wire comes off the winder in a smooth straight condition as opposed to being crimped in a zigzag pattern. To deploy the antenna wire, hold the outer shell and gently pull the wire out. When finished operating, there is a lever that swings out and allows you to wind up the wire like a fishing reel.
