The Viewport Window is where we will be interacting with the 3d environment. We will start by setting up the Viewport Window to better fit our needs as 3d modelers. The default settings for the Viewport are not very ideal and can cause some issues with making out the objects that we are working on. There are also important settings that we will be adjusting such as the grid and activating the counters to keep track of important stats. Making sure that the area we will be spending the most time looking at is clear and easy on the eyes is very important as well as rewarding for those long projects.

We will also be taking a look at how we can navigate our view inside the Viewport Window. Using a combination of mouse buttons and the alt key we will explore how to zoom, pan and rotate the camera around. We will also take a look at how we can change between different displays as well as make adjustments as to what is hidden and what is viewable. This video will also be covering how to select objects with a combination of mouse clicks and the shift or ctrl keys.

The Viewport Window, while somewhat complex, is quite easy to begin using. As you gain experience with using Maya, navigating within the Viewport will begin to become second nature. Over time it is very common that while working with the Viewport Window actions can be performed with no special thought required. Kind of like riding a bicycle.
