Mark 12:31 ESV The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ This scripture verse from the book of Leviticus has been a central tenet of my faith since I was a child. And yet, it is only recently that I have begun to fully understand its implications. To love my neighbor as myself, I must first see them as equals. I must see them as human beings with the same hopes, fears, and desires as me. Only then can I truly love them as myself. This realization has led me to reconsider how I interact with those around me. Instead of looking down on them or judging them, I now try to see things from their perspective. I strive to understand their motivations and feelings. And in doing so, I have found that I am better able to love them as myself.
