Is there mold on microgreens?
When microgreen seeds begin to sprout, you can often see white patches, web-like structures resembling mold. It can be quite abundant on some seeds, while on others, it's almost nonexistent. Many people get scared, thinking it's mold.
NO! Most often, it's not mold—it's the absorptive root hairs of the germinating seeds. A seed needs a lot of water to germinate. It's present in the mat, in the substrate, but the fineness of a single root isn't enough to lift the plant. The plant then produces a mass of tiny, aerial rootlets. These are the ones that absorb water and provide the energy for the seed to germinate.
